Martin Kingston & Declan Shaw Ideal Building SolutionsMy first month in recruitment

Having previously been with only one company since leaving school, I was understandably on tenterhooks waiting to start my new journey. Not only was I changing workplaces, I was completely changing the career path I was on and the industry all my experience was in.

There are many negative urban myths about life as a recruitment consultant, only a month in, I have realised that these are definitely myths and not facts. I believe they are purely dependant on your place of work, not the job role itself.

Fast paced & Unpredictable

With my previous experience being mainly pre-sales and account management, recruitment has proven to be a completely different ball game. Very fast paced with an unpredictable daily routine. I am yet to experience a day that was the same as the last.

The small family I have joined have made me feel very welcome and are continuously helping to shape me into that ‘grade A’ consultant. Being a small team we have a much more focused view on where we want to be, how we want to get there and what we want to achieve along the way.

J Tomlinson New Build Construction RipleySo, what have I managed to pick up within my first month?

I have had to transform into a human sponge this month, soaking up everything I can about the processes of recruitment, learning the ins and outs of the construction industry (something I have never been exposed to in the past). There is no doubt in my mind that I will ever stop soaking up knowledge on these topics. Each day is proving to be a learning curve, as I can imagine is the same for even the most experienced recruiters.

Excited…

I am very excited to see what the future holds, not only for me but for the team I’m part of too and obviously not forgetting the people we work with day in, day out.

Simon Nicholas Associates  really is “all about the people”
