Work Experience

Work experience provides an insight into the world of recruitment.

July 18, 2016

The importance of work experience.

Work experience plays an essential role in preparing young people for the world of work. As a business we are  avid supporters of apprenticeship schemes and so when we were approached about taking on a work experience student for a week, we were more than happy to oblige.

Simon Nicholas Associates is a specialist construction recruitment consultancy. We bring together the very best candidates and construction professionals within the built environment industry across the UK. Through recognition of talent and an emphasis on developing professionals throughout their careers, we offer candidates and clients an exceptional, personal service throughout the entire recruitment experience.

We welcomed Poppy into the Simon Nicholas Associates office on Monday. This, like many other fourteen year olds, was her first taste of what it is like to be in a real workplace.

It was important to ensure her work experience was rounded and useful and so her week was planned to include:-

  • An introduction into office life and an insight into the recruitment industry.
  • Assisting the consultants in their administration duties, this included looking at candidate records.
  • A fact finding task to obtain relevant client information and update our recruitment in-house database.
  • Understanding the importance of social media and communication and how to create a strong brand awareness in a competitive market. Poppy took and edited images and posted content on social media sites.
  • Creating a CV

Poppy picPoppy said “ I have learnt lots of different things during my time at Simon Nicholas Associates both to do with the business and recruitment. It has made me consider thinking about a future office job.”

Simon Nicholas Associates as business likes to focus on careers; highlighted in a recent article in the Nottingham Post we strongly encourage and support the people we work with to advance and progress.

“My favourite part about recruiting is seeing people grow and excel professionally” Simon Pearce, Director

And so, as Poppy returns to school this morning for her last week of studies, we hope she is a little clearer on her career path .

Recruitment is fast paced industry and not for the faint hearted! If you want to find out more about employment opportunities with Simon Nicholas Associates then please do get in touch.
